Are you a land trust, a land owner or just in favor of conserving open space and agricultural land for the future? A new bill, the Charitable Conservation Easement Program Integrity Act (S. 170 / H.R. 1992), needs your help to pass. It will address the abuse of conservation easement investment syndications that are vastly inflating the value of these easements to harvest huge tax deductions. Though the vast number of transactions are truly charitable, if these ‘bad actors’ are allowed to continue and the bill doesn’t pass, Congress could reduce or eliminate federal tax incentives for conservation easement donations. That includes equine properties!
